Did I say that?

And That’s the Plan

I’ve been working on marrying Movable Type and Mason, and so far, the results look pretty good. Coupled with some CSS-fu, I might be able to create a consistent layout, which does not look like the default template of MT, even though it’s a nice template.

The power and flexibility of MT have really impressed me. It’s really nice piece of work, and if all goes well, I’ll shell out the 20 bucks for a donation, it’s definitely worth it. *[MT]: Movable Type

A Very Brief Review of RedHat 8.0

| Comments

I installed the new RedHat version 8.0 (codename Psyche) on my laptop today. The install is the smoothest I have seen so far, really slick.

But much more important than the install is the actual product. The default X11 desktop looks really great, mostly Gnome2 with OpenOffice and Mozilla. The icons look friendly and the menus are trimmed down to only show one app for each category.

That said, I didn’t like it.

First, I don’t really like Gnome2, maybe because of the AA fonts, which to me just look washed out.

And second, it’s now a very newbie-friendly desktop, and I would install it ony mother’s PC in a flash, but to me, it’s too friendly. I like my arcane setup with loads of Xterms all over the place.

I also noticed that gnome-terminal still fucks up screen sessions, that’s why I am now using rxvt on my desktop.

I know, I can configure all that, but frankly, instead of de-n00bieing 8.0, I’ll stick with my trusted 7.3 setup.

Interactivity Is Good

I bought a new toothbrush today, and looking at the packaging, it said “interactive”.

What’s that supposed to mean? Sure, I am interacting with the toothbrush, I move it, and it brushes, but I wouldn’t call that a distinguishing feature that has to be printed on the packaging. I actually expect that from each and every toothbrush.

In fact, I would be sorely disappointed, if I ever got one that wasn’t interactive, that would be quite a drag every morning.

Interactively yours,

Alex

I Can’t Believe It…

I just came back from grocery shopping and putting all the stuff from the car in front of the door. First, I put a twelve-pack of milk cartons there. When I came back with the second bag, it looked like a dog had peed at the bottom of the carton. Looking around, I saw one of my neighbours walking with her dog.

I can’t believe the fucking nerve of some people. I wonder what she would say, if I would do the same…

Note to Self

Gotta get the following CDs:

  • Beck: Sea Change

The Golden Age rocks, I’ve been listening to it on repeat for a while now and am still not tired of it

  • Ryan Adams: Demolition

The same goes for Jesus (don’t you touch my baby), I’ve got a playlist consisting just of those two songs.

Lack of Updates

The reason why I haven’t updated for a while: Unreal Tournament 2003 Demo

I’ve been playing the Linux demo for a while now, and it’s a great game. What really impresses me, is that is playable on my rather old box (Duron 800, Geforce 2 MX). OK, it’s just in 640*480, but it works, is reasonably fast, and great fun.

Logic? What’s That?

Just heard on the news, that an alarming amount of kids in Germany are overweight. And what does the government plan to do against it? They want to ban advertising of sweets and high-fat food.

Riiight, because the only reason that kids eat so much is because of advertising. WTF happened to parents and raising your kids, telling them not to eat so much junk food and generally being responsible?
