Grokking TrackBack

| Comments

I think I finally understand the TrackBack system now. I mean, I understood the basics, but after trying for about 30 minutes to have the TrackBack option appear in the MT Bookmarklet, I was surprised to find out, that if there’s only one TrackBack item, then it’s automatically pinged. D’oh!

I Might Have to Retract My Previous Statement

After seeing Phils Red Hat 8.0 screenshot, I think I should spend some more time on frobnicating my Psyche installation at work. And since I have now found out some new configuration tips for screen, I might be able to whip it into usable shape. Especially, since I have now a 19” monitor at word, running 1152*864. Schmooove!

Font Suckage

| Comments

Why does the Palatino font on Linux suck so bad? It’s the default in the new MovableType 2.5 stylesheet for serif font, and it looks like ass in Galeon. Time to hit Google.

First Test Post From Blogical

If you can read this, then I managed to post this entry via Blogical, my Perl-GTK MovableType client. As soon as I have cleaned up the code, I’ll put up a page for it, maybe someone else can use this thing, too.

Cutting Loose

Not to be left behind the technology curve, I decided to scrounge ebay for a “cheap” WLAN card. I mean, if they start selling this technology at the supermarket, it’s time to catch up, especially if you’re kinda geeky. :-) And I did find one, an Enterasys RoamAbout. It’s an Orinoco Silver card, so it works with Linux. With only the card, I won’t be able to do much, but at least I can start war driving. Well, since I would have to use public transportation for that, I better rethink that….

What Do You Mean, Spit?

Yesterday, while driving home from grocery shopping, I turned on the radio an heard a short piece about how the police are looking for a serial rapist in Sprockhövel (small town near Wuppertal), who has attacked 19 women since 1994. To find him, they are doing DNA test, and after having tested 3000 men in Sprockhövel, they now think that the suspect might have moved to Wuppertal. So, now they want to test 400 men who used to live in Sprockhövel and now live in Wuppertal. “Poor guys, having to show up there and having there mouths swabbed for DNA” I thought. Well, what do you know. I come home, open the mailbox, and I have a letter from the Bochum police, informing me, that I have to show up next wednesday to have my DNA sampled. Umm, OK… But wait! I haven’t lived in Sprockhövel, why do they want to test me? Some thinking later, it hits me: When I was one year old, my parents had rented a house in the country, near a farm, to get away from the city in the summer, but it was only a secondary residence, as far as I recall. And we had that for three years. And, yes, it was in Sprockhövel. Which of course makes me a suspect, because you know how vicious those little kids can be. Maybe they should have refined their SQL query take into account the age at which the men actually lived in Sprockhövel. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against DNA sampling to catch those scumbags, I just find it strange how ended up in the sample group.

My Drug Has Me Back

I am a weak person. I ran back into the arms of caffeine. Looking through the office fridge, I found a carton of milk. I thought it was an ancient carton, half full and by now inhabited by sentient lactose, so I decided to throw it out. But it turns out, it was still full and sealed. And since I hate to let things go to waste and being incredibly tired this morning, I admitted defeat and brewed a few cups of the dark nectar. And boy, is it good to be back. I guess I do need one of those: Picture of Caffeine Junkie T-Shirt

He Got Game

SPIEL 2002 today was a blast. My feet hurt, I am tired, and I spent much more money than I should have. So it was a full success :-) I finally got to meet Brian VanCamp, after having done some trades and display purchases through him. And he proceeded to kick my ass, once while demoing Cannibal Pygmies in the Jungle of Doom, and once in a 3 player Shadowfist match. And I got my ass kicked again in another 3 player match. But I got some good deck building tips, so maybe I’ll be able to finally bring my “You screw me, I screw you more” Jammer deck up to speed. I also heard that the guy doing all those Battleground Ruhrgebiet tourneys in Dortmund wants to do a german shadowfist portal, so I think I should get in touch with him, that sounds like a neat project, maybe they could use some help.
