They Are Watching Me

Or so someone wants me to think. I came across this in my referrers this morning: http://homeland.fbi.gov/Watchlists/suspect/view.jsp?record=842536

Of course, it doesn’t resolve, but at least it’s something new to spoof the referrer field with :-)

Enough Is Enough

After some more playing around with the CSS, and watching the results simultaneously in IE and Mozilla, I think I will take to heart the words of Mark Pilgrim:

IE users can blow me.

Absolutely Relatively Floating

Today, I saw how my website looks in IE. And it looked like ass. After futzing around a little with the CSS, at least I have the link div next to the content div. But so far I habe not been able to make the whole thing centered. It works in Mozilla, by using margin: auto, but IE seems totally unimpressed by that… Well, back to the drawing board.

Huh?

Browsing through my referrer logs, I came across this french swiss site about blogging, which has listed me at the bottom, with the comment “anti weblogger !” I mean, I am anti pretty much anything at one time or another, but so far, I have not been anti weblogging. Or maybe anti means “cool frood” in french…

48 Hours

So, Dubya gives Saddam the choice to either leave the country in 48 hours, or he’ll bring the war to him. Come on, why didn’t he just declare war instead of this stupid ultimatum. Not that I am for a war, but this is getting more and more bizarre. Like Saddam would now say “OK, you’re right, let me just get my toothbrush, and I’ll be on my way. Ta-da.” First, Bush wants Iraq to be inspected by the UN. Now there are weapons inspectors there. Then the disarmament is going to slow. And now, he wants Saddam to even leave the country. Why the fuck this whole charade in the first place? What’s next? Maybe the next thing will be that he wants Saddam to bring him shrubbery. And when he brings him shrubbery, he will have to cut down the mightiest tree in the forest… with… a herring!

Welcome to Java Hell

Whoever thought up all this Java Servlet stuff? I mean, I am a unix guy, I have no problems with text config files. But Jesus, this whole XML crap you have to wade through to get Apache Tomcat (or Jakarta, or Catalina, or whatever it is called today) running is just a big pain in the ass. All I want to do is install one JSP and one Servlet, so we can run some tests on it. But I cannot find the documentation on how to do that.

Give me PHP, or mod_perl or even plain CGI any day over this overengineered piece of rubbish!

After some frobbing around with CSS, slackerbit.ch gets a new layout. The paint might still be wet in places. Step carefully.

Back to the Roots

To prepare for the impending redesign of my sites, I started to remove some rather silly things I had grafted onto these pages. The top referer links have gone, and I also removed the mt-refsearch stuff, mainly because this defeats the cacheability of these pages.

And really, the referer stuff can just as well be put into a CGI, like the Comments and TrackBack things.

You know you’ve achieved perfection in design, not when you have nothing more to add, but when you have nothing more to take away.

So I am currently looking for things to take away ;-)
